Stay Safe On Winter Roads With These Tips

Winter is Just Around the Corner

As the season changes and winter approaches, we should consider a few things before getting on the road.

Step 1: Ensure your vehicle is prepared for winter

  • The use of winter tires will considerably improve your traction on snowy, icy, wet, and slushy roads.
  • Keep your windshield washer fluid topped up
  • Always have a snow brush in your vehicle
  • Clean all surfaces of snow before you get on the road. Make sure there's no snow or ice on any windows or mirrors, and the roof should be cleaned as well.

Step 2: Pack your vehicle with safety gear

Keep a small shovel, gloves, booster cables, windshield wiper fluid, flashlight, and non-perishable energy foods.

Step 3: Check weather conditions

Check the weather before you leave to make sure conditions are safe for driving.

Step 4: Drive slow

This one can sound a bit repetitive for all winter driving pros, but it can be the most important one. Keeping your distance from other drivers as well as giving yourself plenty of distance for stopping is what will keep you and people around you safe.

Step 5: Fill up on gas

If your gas levels run low, moisture can build up in your fuel system, and this can cause it to freeze. To prevent this from happening, make sure to keep your tank full.
